Bears come up short against Metro State

Sunday evening's match against the Metro State did not fall the Bears way, with the Roadrunners barely edging UNC by a score of 4-3.
Metro State was able to clinch the doubles point by winning 6-4 on court 1 over Kyle Pease/Tommy Smalley, as well as on the No. 2 court with a 6-1 win over Julian Kenzlers/Nick Wade.
Adolfo Arroyo/Michael Kritzinger swept their opponents in the No. 3 doubles match 6-0 to earn one doubles win for the Bears.
The match would turn out to be a long battle between the two teams, with four out of six singles matches going into three sets. After taking the first set 6-3, Kyle Pease dropped the next two sets to Joey Tscherne.
Adolfo Arroyo lost a tight contest with Daniel Llorente, who came back after Arroyo won the first set 7-6 to win the match with 6-4, 6-3 second and third sets. Alex Exsted was also defeated on the No. 4 court 7-6, 6-2.
Julian Kenzlers was the one to make a comeback for the Bears on the No. 3 court after dropping the first set 6-2. Kenzlers only allowed his opponent one point in the final two sets to take the match 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.
Nick Wade survived losing a tight second set 6-7 to win the duel with a convincing 6-1 third-set win in the No. 5 spot. Michael Kritzinger added another point for the Bears from the No. 6 spot with a victory over Kacey Walisundara 7-6, 6-1.
The Bears will now play two more home matches at the end of the week. The first will be against Colorado Mesa on April 11th at 2:30 PM. On Sunday, the Bears will look to get a win against Portland State to earn their best finish in the Big Sky rankings since 2016-17.
