Northern Colorado fell to Montana Saturday afternoon
MISSOULA, Mont.- Northern Colorado softball dropped its regular season finale to Montana 4-2. After trailing early, UNC(11-37, 5-12) pulled in front of the Grizzlies, but could not hold onto the lead.
Valerie Vidal made her final regular season career start on Saturday, facing off against Montana's Michaela Hood.
The Grizzlies scored first in the game with a solo home run from Maygen McGrath in the bottom of the second inning for a 1-0 advantage.
Vidal rebounded after the home run, shutting out Montana in the next two innings.
In the top of the fourth, UNC had its bats working scoring two runs on three hits. Dani Young singled up the middle with two outs and Shaena Robinson doubled to left field in the UNC's next at bat. The Bears added their second run on another single up the middle from Natalie Joyner. UNC was in front 2-1 and Hood was replaced by Colleen Driscoll.
Montana would tie the game back up in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI double. The game was now knotted up at two.
The long ball was a problem once again for Vidal, as Cami Sellers smacked a two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth to give the Grizzlies a 4-2 lead.
