The UNC Bears Women's Tennis team got back to their winning ways by defeating the Colorado Mesa Mavericks 5-2 in Thursday afternoon's match.
Shortly after the Men's Tennis team got the win over Colorado Mesa, the Women's team kept the ball rolling in a convincing fashion against CMU at Work Out West. The Bears swept the doubles matches, earning the first point for UNC.
Raffa Mora/Anna Battersby earned the first win on the No. 1 court 6-1. Sarina Chhabra/Synclair Larson followed it up with a 6-4 win in the No. 2 spot, and capping it off with a win was Sandra Keta/Natalie Stanton 5-3 on the No. 3 court.
Raffa Mora began the singles matches by only allowing her opponent a single point in her victory on the No. 3 court, winning 6-1, 6-0. Madeline Doherty earned the next point for the Bears with a 6-1, 6-3 win in the No. 4 spot.
Sandra Keta earned the fourth point for UNC, clinching the match with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 2 matchup. Anna Battersby fought a long three-set duel with Kristen Kilby, ultimately falling 4-6, 6-4, 8-10.
In the No. 5 and 6 matchups, the Bears and Mavericks split the matches. Sarina Chhabra won in the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-1, while Synclair Larson fell in the No. 6 position in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 7-10.
Head Coach Chad Stoloff had this to say after the Bears win,
"We loved how we competed today, playing high percentage tennis, high IQ tennis. Really good effort, attitude, focus all the way through. It was good to get the victory, play at home in front of our fans. We are looking forward to playing at home Senior day next Thursday against Colorado State."
As Coach Stoloff said, the next match for the Bears will be the last on the season. The Senior day match will be an exciting one against in-state rival Colorado State at home in Greeley on April 18th at 2 PM.
