Northern Colorado women's basketball faces Eastern Washington in the Big Sky Semifinals
BOISE, Idaho – After taking care of Southern Utah on Tuesday night by controlling the glass, UNC women's basketball looks to punch its ticket back to the Big Sky title game on Wednesday night against Eastern Washington at 8 pm inside Century Link Arena.
Opening Tip
• Northern Colorado advanced to the semifinals with an 82-50 win over Southern Utah on Tuesday night.
• Abby Kain set a Big Sky Tournament record with 21 rebounds against SUU.
• Savannah Smith led the team with 23 points, while Alexis Chapman added in 17 and Micayla Isenbart had 13.
•Northern Colorado controlled the boards against Southern Utah, outrebounding them 49-25.
• Eastern Washington is the only team that played in the opening round that is still left in the tournament.
• EWU had a pair of big fourth quarter comebacks in both their Big Sky wins, first against Eastern Washington and then against Idaho State.
• The Eagles, outlasted Idaho State to advance to play the Bears 67-65.
• UNC and EWU split their games this year both winning on the road.
Last Time Out
Northern Colorado controlled the glass and the game against Southern Utah in the quarterfinals for an 82-50 win. UNC outrebounded SUU 49-25. Twenty-one of the rebounds belonged to Abby Kain who set a Big Sky Tournament record.
Scouting the Eagles
Eastern Washington has used a pair of fourth quarter comeback wins to advance to the Big Sky semifinals. The Eagles defeated Weber State in the first round, before upsetting Idaho State in overtime of the quarterfinals.
Violet Kapri Morrow makes the team go, with her team-leading 18.3 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. EWU also has the Big Sky Reserve of the Year coming off their bench in Uriah Howard. She averages 20.5 minutes 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds on 38.3 percent from the field and behind the arc.
History against Eastern Washington
The Bears and Eagles have had close battles against each other through out the series history. EWU and UNC did not play against one another until the Bears joined the conference in 2007. Northern Colorado holds a 15-10 advantage in the series. They have met one time in the Big Sky Tournament, 2013 when UNC won 70-64 in overtime.
Against the Big Sky
UNC joined the Big Sky in the 2006-07 season and has gone 131-97. Overall, the team is 144-103 against Big Sky schools.
Big Sky Tournament History
Northern Colorado has seen some success in the Big Sky Tournament, advancing to the finals four times, finally breaking through the wall last season in defeating Idaho for their first ever Big Sky Tournament title.
The Bears have advanced to the Big Sky semifinals five times with a 4-1 record in those games.
On This Date
UNC is 2-2 when playing on March 13. All four games have come in conference tournament play. The Bears have won their last two games on the date.
Oh So Kain
Abby Kain had a career night in the team's Big Sky Quarterfinal game against Southern Utah. She set a Big Sky Tournament record with 21 rebounds to go with nine points, four assists, a steal and block. The 21 rebounds were one shy of tying the program record.

A win and Northern Colorado advances to its fifth Big Sky title game. The Championship is set for Friday, March 15 at 1 pm in Boise.
