Northern Colorado men's golf moved up the leaderboard and into the top 10 on Friday in the John Burns Intercollegiate by shooting a 5-under 281. The solid second round gives the team a total of 573 through two days to be tied with UC Santa Barbara for eighth place.
UNC had four golfers shoot even-par or better during the second round, led by Li Chen's 3-under, 69. He had just one bogey on his round as he played consistent golf throughout the day including making a birdie on his final hole the par 4, 370 yard 11th.
Just like Thursday's opening round, Coby Welch and Nick Sharp shot marching rounds, this time 2-under, 70s. Both Welch and Sharp matched teammate Chen with four birdies on their scorecard. Sharp also eagled the par 5, 520 yard first hole. They lead the Bears on the individual leaderboard with a total of 142 to be tied for 25th.
Jack Castiglia was the fourth Bear to shoot even-par or better on Friday, with an even 72. Meanwhile, Joshua Matz shot a 75 on Friday.
Prenzlow's Perspective
It was a fun day for the Bears as it was a great team effort from the top of the lineup all the way through! Li (Chen), Nick (Sharp) and Coby (Welch) were all under par and Jack shot even-par! Joshua struggled a bit but he will be there the final round. We made a ton of birdies down the stretch and played with a purpose! This group is fun and talented. Tomorrow we need to keep working on the things we have talked about in practice the last few weeks to give us the best chance to put another great score on the board.
What's ahead
Northern Colorado looks to bring home its sixth top 10 finish of the season on Saturday with a strong final round. The team tees off at 11 am MT. Live scoring of the final round can be found by click here.
