Montoya and Seely in a Good Position After Second NCAA Rankings Released

NCAA lists Rico Montoya at No. 16 and Jacob Seely at No. 23
INDIANAPOLIS, IN- The postseason outlook for Rico Montoya and Jacob Seely is promising as both were included in the second release of the coaches' panel rankings. Montoya earns the No. 16 spot and Seely is listed at No. 23 in their respective weight classes.
The NCAA will release two more rankings that factor into determining which wrestlers will participate in the Division I Wrestling Championships in Pittsburgh, PA.
Montoya moves up one spot in the 125 lb rankings to No. 16, with a 12-5 overall record and 9-5 against DI opponents. Last time on the mat, Montoya was in control for the entire match over North Dakota State's Paul Bianchi, earning a 14-4 major decision win. Montoya is 5-4 in dual matches this season and leads the team with four tech falls and five major decisions. This season, Montoya is also ranked No. 18 by The Open Mat, No. 19 by W.I.N. Magazine, and No. 22 by Trackwrestling.com.
Seely is slated at No. 23 in the 197 lb rankings, holding a 11-5 overall record, which have all come against DI opponents. Seely is 7-3 in dual matches and won a 9-2 decision over Northern Iowa's Tyrell Gordon in late January. On the season, Seely leads UNC with six decision wins and is second on the team with three major decisions. Seely is also ranked No. 15 by W.I.N. and is No. 19 by Trackwrestling.
With both wrestlers maintaining spots in the rankings, they look to be in good position to make it too Pittsburgh in March. Montoya is working towards qualifying for the championships for the third consecutive season, while Seely looks to qualify for the second straight season.
Montoya and Seely will both be in action this weekend as the team hosts Utah Valley on Friday at 7 pm MST and No. 12 Wyoming on Sunday at 2 pm.
