MOSCOW, Idaho – Thursday night was set up to be the crowning achievement for Jordan Davis's time at UNC, instead, the Bears put together one of the best team efforts they have had all season and showed the rest of the conference they are more than No. 0. Nine Northern Colorado players found the scoresheet to lead the Bears to a blowout win over Idaho, 75-47.
Davis still did his thing, he led all scorers with 16 points and now is just two points away from becoming the all-time leading scorer in program history.
Idaho came into the game with the second-best three-point field goal defense in the Big Sky. Led by Trent Harris who knocked down five by himself, the Bears hit 14 triples against the Vandals and made them at nearly a 38 percent clip. The 14 made three-pointers are the most given up by Idaho this season topping the 13 they allowed to Montana their last time out.
UNC lived by the three in the first half. Leading 18-7 with just under 10 minutes to play, the Bears scored 21-straight points via the long ball. They closed out the half scoring 24 of their last 28 points from deep.
However, it wasn't just the shooting that broke the game open. UNC clamped down on the defensive end as well. They outscored UI 25-13 and held them scoreless for nearly a seven-minute stretch spanning the end of the first half and start of the second.
BREAKING OUT OF THE BOX SCORE
It was a big night in the Big Sky. The two teams surrounding UNC in the standings met for the second time this season and Montana swept the season series from Weber State with an 83-80 win. The victory keeps the Griz ahead of the Bears in the standings, but the loss dropped the Wildcats into a third-place tie with Montana State, two games behind UNC.
SCHEDULE SAYS
The road trip concludes with a trip to Eastern Washington on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles will have been off for a full week prior to hosting UNC. The Bears will then more than a week off for the second time this season before they head to Missoula in what will be a battle for first place on Feb. 25.
