@BearsSoftball Falls to North Texas to End Road Trip

Northern Colorado went 1-4 in the team's opening weekend
COLLEGE STATION, TX- Northern Colorado softball ended its first road trip of the season on Sunday morning, losing to North Texas 8-2.
The Mean Green won the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, as they scored seven runs against UNC to give them a large enough lead for the rest of the game.
"We played well, but need to cut down on mistakes; they continue to haunt us," head coach Ben Garcia said. "I'm also proud of the girls as they continue to improve."
Valerie Vidal started for the Bears and was able to keep the North Texas offense in check through the first three innings. Vidal was knocked out in the fourth inning, although most of the runs were unearned after a costly UNC error.
UNC faced Mean Green's Hope Trautwein for the second time this weekend and against struggled to get base runners. Trautwein shut out the Bears for the first five innings, allowing three hits and two walks.
Shaena Robinson broke through for UNC in the top of the sixth inning with a pinch-hit, two-run home run to center field off North Texas reliever Ally Lindsey. Robinson's home run was her first hit in blue and gold after transferring to Greeley in the fall. The Bears had cut the Mean Green lead to 7-2 after Robinson's home run.
North Texas would tack on another run in the bottom of the sixth to extend the team's lead to 8-2.
Trautwein reentered the game and closed out UNC in order in the top of the seventh inning to hand the Bears their second loss against North Texas.
Vidal was hit with seven runs, with only one being earned, in 3.2 innings pitched. She struck out three and walked two, allowing seven hits.
Northern Colorado finished the Aggie Classic 1-4 in Ben Garcia's first tournament with the team.

Northern Colorado will participate in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge next weekend(Feb. 14-16) in Mexico, playing four games.

- Valerie Vidal started four of the teams five games, going 1-3 in 17.2 innings of work. Vidal has a 6.11 ERA with 11 walks and eight strikeouts.
- Kenzie Kudrna went two-for-three, with one run scored on Sunday. For the tournament, Kudrna was 5-13 with three runs scored and two walks.
- Natalie Joyner went one-for-three against North Texas, and finished the weekend 3-10 with two runs scored, one home run and one double.
- Â Mady Young went one-for-three Sunday and was 3-12 for the weekend. Young had two doubles and one run scored, with one walk in the tournament.
