Bobcats Run Past Bears
11/9/2019 3:50:00 PM | Football
UNC football was unable to slow Montana States run game.
With MSU pinned deep in their end of the field, Luke Nelson tipped a pass that ended up intercepted by Brooks Talkington. He took the ball from 10 yards out into the end zone to even the game at seven.
The Bobcats went to their run game after that finishing with 451 yards and four rushing touchdowns. Meanwhile, their defense held UNC to 289 yards of offense.
Jacob Knipp and the Noahs combined for 68 of UNC's 75 yards in a fourth quarter drive that ended in a touchdown. A 31-yard pitch and catch to Noah Sarria sparked the drive and was followed up with completions of 18, 11 and 8-yards to Noah Sol. The final catch for eight yards resulted in a touchdown.
What They Said
Head Coach Earnest Collins Jr
On Montana State's run game
"They have big boys up front and then a six-foot-plus running back that weight two-hundred two or thirty pounds and he gets a head of steam going and it's hard to slow down that momentum. Even with that we were not stopping the regular run game today and then you add in the triple-option aspects and we were not disciplined enough to stop it."
About the offense's struggles
"When you look at our offense you realize that Milo is the heart and soul, he is was gets us going. When you have forty-four yards rushing you have to come up with something else. When they stop us in the run game we have to get the ball up the field with the pass and we missed out on some of those plays that would have got our offense going."
Game Notes
- It was the first career interception for Brooks Talkington. The pick-six was the second of the season for UNC. The other came last week by Michael Walker against Idaho State.
- Montana State's 451 yards rushing is a Nottingham Field record. They broke the previous record of 446 set by Northern Colorado against Adams State in 2003.
- Noah Sol extended his streak to three straight games with a touchdown reception on Saturday.
