Marcus Williams comes to UNC from Texas
Northern Colorado men's basketball added a dynamic combo guard to its 2020 recruiting class on Tuesday with the addition of Marcus Williams. The 6-2, 170 lbs guard comes to UNC from Dickinson High School in the Houston area.
"We're ecstatic about the addition of Marcus Williams to the Bear program. Marcus brings a wealth of ability and upside to the future of the guard spot at UNC. As an explosive playmaker, Marcus brings a ton of excitement to the floor every time he steps on the court," head coach Jeff Linder said. "Marcus has great feel and vision with the ball in his hands which leads to great looks for his teammates. He has an uncanny ability to make the right read, especially in ball-screens. Additionally, Marcus has fantastic size and athleticism for a guard of his ability, which allows him to pick apart defenses with the pass or with explosive plays at the rim. Marcus is an exceptional young man and we look forward to him electrifying Bank of Colorado Arena crowds for years to come!"
Williams is one of the top-rated guards in Texas ranked 35th in the state by Texas Hoops and in the top 10 for his region of the greater Houston area. The guard looks to help his high school earn a Texas class 6A title as they come into the season ranked in the top 10. He also played for Team Harden – Texas as a part of the Adidas Gauntlent. on the AAU circuit. His brother Faite plays for Prairie View A&M.
"Marcus is a great kid that loves the game of basketball. His competitive nature is what sets him apart from his peers," Dickinson High School head coach Jay Wilson said. "He will be a great addition to the Northern Colorado basketball program."
"Coaching Marcus was fun. He's full of surprises. He's a kid who has a great feel for the game and is very patient," added Team Harden head coach Eric Dixon. "Whenever we needed a stop, I didn't have to tell him, he knew what to do! Whenever we needed a basket, he made it happen; whether it was setting up a teammate or attack himself. Marcus is a true teammate who doesn't care about individual stats, but would rather celebrate a win with his team. With Marcus, you're getting a player that has your back and is ready to go to battle every step of the way!"
Williams picked to go out of state and come to UNC over offers from in-state schools Stephen F Austin, Sam Houston State and North Texas.
He plans to major in Sports and Exercise Science at UNC.
