Conference Leading Bears Return Home for Key Matches

1-2 Matchup Highlights Weekend Slate
The Bears return to Bank of Colorado Arena this weekend in sole possession of first place in the Big Sky Conference. UNC went 2-0 on the road last weekend, starting with a four-set win against Idaho State on Friday. They followed up with a sweep of Weber State on Saturday to improve to 4-0 in the conference.
The Bears are 4-0 in Big Sky for the first time since the 2010 season, when they finished 14-2 to tie for first place with Portland State.
Offense and defense have been equal contributing factors to UNC's success this season, as the Bears rank first in the Big Sky in both kills per set (12.75) and assists per set (11.80).
Kailey Jo Ince continued her outstanding sophomore campaign, recording 3.86 kills per set and a .351 attack percentage in the two wins this weekend. Ince ranks third in the Big Sky with 3.65 kills per set, scoring 230 kills, and recording a .283 hitting percentage this season. The offense runs through Daisy Schultz and her 10.50 assists per set, good for second in the conference.
On the defensive side of net, UNC is allowing a conference-low, 11.20 kills per set. Â
It was another strong defensive weekend from Taylor Els, as she recorded 4.71 digs per set and added three service aces against the Bengals and Wildcats. Els is fourth in the conference and leads UNC with 4.26 digs per set, adding 0.31 service aces per set.
Back at Bank Colorado Arena, UNC will look to keep the top spot in the standings with two matches, one against the number two team in the conference.
Scouting Eagles
Eastern Washington has struggled this season, with a current record of 0-5 in the Big Sky and 2-15 overall. The Eagles have played their last three games on the road, falling to Idaho this past Tuesday.This past weekend, EWU was swept by both Montana and Montana State. Sophomore middle blocker, Puaoolelagi Sao, is the Eagles key defender, averaging 4.19 digs per set, which ranks fourth in conference.
Scouting the Vandals
Idaho trails only UNC in the Big Sky standings, with a 4-1 record and 8-9 overall in 2019. The Vandals are coming off wins, both in four sets, over Montana State and Montana this past weekend. Idaho tops the conference for hitting percentage, with a .235 average. Kyra Palmbush holds a .340 percentage to rank third in the Big Sky, with teammate Nicole Ball right behind her at fourth with a .325 percentage.
Following the Bears
The Bears host Eastern Washington on Friday, October 11th with first serve at noon. The action continues on Saturday, October 12th against Idaho at 1 pm.

UNC's game against Eastern Washington on Friday will be Fitness Friday, as kids (12 and under) receive a free ticket to the game.
PINK OUT!
The Saturday game against Idaho will be UNC's pink out game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Bears will be wearing pink uniforms for the game as well. Following the conclusion of the game, UNC Volleyball will be holding a Silent Auction Dinner fundraiser for their trip to Greece and Italy next summer.
