Bears in Top Six For 2018-19 Team Academic Awards

GREELEY, Colo.- Northern Colorado has been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches with the 2018-19 Academic Award along with five other Big Sky programs. The Bears were in the top five sitting at third for the highest GPA, 3.50, in the Big Sky.
"It is always a testament to the focus and hard work or our student-athletes. They continually push themselves to excel in the classroom and it shows in that average GPA," said head coach Tim Barrera. "One of the great things as a coach is to see our former players out in the community, at airports, at our games or wherever we run into them and to see how well they are doing from the hard work as an undergraduate. At our Friday game, for example, we saw Kassy Castillo who is attending medical school. We saw Jacqui Pulley who is in her first year as an elementary school teacher. And we saw Shanlie Anderson who is working at a hospital in Colorado Springs."
The College Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program, with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2018-19 academic school year.
This award is Northern Colorado's third-straight award and 15th overall.

The Bears are back on the road this week as they travel to Southern Utah for a game on October 11, with a kick-off time of 4 pm. The Bears then stay on the road against Northern Arizona on October 13, with a start time of 1 pm.
