Four Bears card a round of par or better at day one of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite
ERIE – Coming off winning the Ron Moore Intercollegiate over the weekend, Jack Castiglia continued his strong play on Monday at the Mark Simpson Invite. Castiglia sits in a tie for 12th through the first two rounds with a 4-under, 140. As a team, Northern Colorado enters Tuesday's final round in eighth place at 2-under, 574.
Castiglia started his day with a strong first round shooting a 5-under, 67. Starting on the ninth hole, he shot a was 4-under through his first nine holes and without a bogey. He would finish the round with a bogey and one more birdie to card the 67. In the afternoon, he battled to stay around even-par, finishing with a 1-over, 73. He leads the Bears with nine birdies through 36 holes.
Joining Castiglia with rounds under par on Monday were Coby Welch and TJ Shehee. Welch shot a 3-under 69 during the morning round and Shehee was 1-under, 71, in the afternoon. Shehee enters the final round tied for 28th at even-par, 144, while Welch is two strokes behind with a total of 146.
Marcus Tait shot an even-par 72 in the afternoon as well.
