Men's Golf Scorches Course in Final Round of Mark Simpson Invite

All six Northern Colorado men's golfers shoot par or better during final round of Mark Simpson Invite
ERIE – Northern Colorado finished a challenging five-day stretch of competing in a pair of 54-hole tournaments by shooting its best round as a team on Tuesday with a 12-under 276. The round ties for the second-lowest in program history, just two strokes behind the record. All six Bears in the competition shot even-par or better. The team came in eighth place overall in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite.
Coby Welch and Marcus Tait tied for the lowest round by a Northern Colorado golfer shooting 4-under, 68. Welch, who started on the ninth hole, shot a 3-under 33 on the back nine with three birdies and a bogey. For the round, he had five birdies. He finished the tournament tied for 24th at a 2-under, 214.
Tait turned in his best round as a Bear with six birdies on Tuesday. He was 2-under on both the back and front nine, ending up finishing in a tie for 31st with teammate TJ Shehee. Shehee shot an even-par 72 in the final round.
Jack Castiglia earned the best finish for UNC by tying for 11th. He shot a 3-under, 69 on Tuesday. Castiglia caught fire with a birdie on holes 12-15. He finished the tournament with 14 birdies.
Blake Danni shot a 1-under, 71 and Nick Sharp closed out the tournament with an even-par 72.
What's Ahead
The Bears will now hibernate until February when they start their spring season. It begins at the Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Southern Utah in St. George, Utah. Northern Colorado won the tournament last season.
