@UNCBearsVB Takes On the Montana Schools This Weekend

Northern Colorado will host Montana and Montana State on consecutive days
GREELEY, Colo.- The home stand for Northern Colorado volleyball continues this week, as the host the Montana schools for a pair of matches. UNC will first play Montana on Thursday at 7 P.M.(MT) and then take on Montana State, Friday at 6 P.M.
In the first week of Big Sky competition, UNC went 1-1 with a sweep of Eastern Washington last Saturday. The Bears were swept by conference, preseason favorite Idaho Thursday.
Despite the outcome, Kortney Lockey became the 18th member of the 1000 club against the Vandals, scoring two early kills to give her the milestone. Lockey currently sits at 1016 career kills, after recording 18 in last weeks matches.
UNC continues to score at a high level as a team, ranking first in the conference in kills per set (13.11) and assists (12.47). The team also ranks second in the conference and 32nd in the nation with 37.63 team attacks per set.
Lauren Hinrichs is a consistent and efficient scorer in the middle for UNC and that ability has continued in conference play. Hinrichs is second in the Big Sky with a 0.366 attack percentage and that figure is also good for 57th in the nation. Hinirchs is also adding 2.71 kills per set to give the Bears good scoring production at the net.
Defensively, UNC has been consistent in keeping opponents to a low attack percentage. The Bears are allowing opponents to hit 0.188 in matches, ranking third in the Big Sky. Taylor Els has been key for the UNC defense and ranks second in the conference with 5.13 digs per set.

Scouting the Grizzlies
Montana finished its non-conference schedule with a 3-9 recording, but has started strong in the conference play with a 2-0 record. The Grizzlies defeated Sacramento State at home 3-2 and followed the win up with a sweep of Portland State. Outside hitter Mykaela Hammer leads the Grizzlies with 2.76 kills per set and is second on the team with a .238 hitting percentage. The senior is also third on the team with 0.78 blocks per set and leads the team with 42 total for the season. Sophomore Middle Blocker Baily Permann leads the Grizzlies with 0.83 blocks per set, with 40 total blocks to rank just behind Hammer. Permann is adding 1.19 kills per set with a .163 hitting percentage.
Northern Colorado swept Montana in both matches last season. The most recent match was also in Greeley, with Jadyn McCartney scoring 10 kills to help give UNC the win.

Scouting the Bobcats
Junior Montana State went 5-6 in non-conference matches and split its first two Big Sky matches this past week. Playing at home, the Bobcats topped Portland State 3-2, before dropping the match against Sacramento State, 1-3. Outside hitter Evi Wilson powers the Bobcats offense with 3.06 kills per set and she is third on the team with a .213 attack percentage. Junior Libero Allyssa Rizzo has been strong for the Bobcats back row, ranking first in the conference and 11th in the nation with 5.66 digs per set. Rizzo has tallied 300 total digs in 47 sets played, ranking 18th in the nation.
UNC also swept Montana State in both matches last season. The two teams met in Greeley last October, with Kortney Lockey powering the win with 16 kills and 14 digs.
