GREELEY, Colo.- The Weber State Wildcats used consistent, aggressive play to defeat the Bears in women's tennis 7-0 Saturday morning in Greeley at UNC campus tennis courts. The Wildcats got off to a fast start by winning No. 1 and No. 2 doubles in just 26 minutes. Later in singles, Weber State took down Northern Colorado in straight sets at every position except No. 1.
Raffa Mora played well for the Bears at No. 1 in her return to the lineup. She showed she had plenty of energy in the early going and captured the first set 6-3 against Pei_Hsuan Kuo.
Mora was able to hit drop shots with confidence and regularly outlasted Kuo in long rallies in the first half of the contest but Kuo came back strong in the second set and carried her momentum into a ten point tiebreaker, played in lieu of a full third set. Kuo won the tiebreaker 10-6.
Carrigan Blanchard was close to taking her second set at No. 5 against Morgan Dickason but came up just short, falling 6-1, 7-5. Saturday's match was played in warm but windy conditions, forcing both teams to alter slightly, their style of play.
The Bears (4-8, 1-4 Big Sky) go back on the road for six straight duels, beginning with Southern Utah on March 30 in Cedar City. They are 2-4 in the month of March so far. Weber State (7-7, 4-1 Big Sky) plays Colorado State in Fort Collins next on Sunday before returning home next weekend.
