Preview: A Quick Road Trip Up to Fort Collins for @bearssoftball on Tuesday

Northern Colorado will play one game against CSU
GREELEY, Colo.- Northern Colorado softball will make a quick road trip up to Fort Collins on Tuesday for a mid-week game against Colorado State.
UNC (8-7) went 3-2 over the weekend at the Libby Matson Tournament in Stockton, Calif., defeating Pacific 5-2 and 9-8(9 innings). The Bears also defeated Seattle, 1-0, on Sunday, while dropping games against Seattle (4-7) and Nevada (2-6).
Valerie Vidal pitched another complete game, shutout against Seattle and struck 10 batters to earn her fifth win of the season. On the season, Vidal has a 2.09 ERA with 39 strikeouts and 14 walks in 50.1 innings pitched.
Madi Schmidt had a productive weekend for the Bears, with a .438 average and six RBIs. Schmidt also recorded two doubles and a triple for a total of 11 bases during the tournament. On the season, Schmidt has a .333 average and 13 RBIs.
Lauren Paige continued to get on base consistently over the weekend, recording a .462 average while drawing four walks and being hit by the pitch three times. Paige has a .395 average on the season and a .531 on-base-percentage, both lead the team. In the circle, Paige also picked up two wins in three appearances during the tournament, with a 3.15 ERA. Paige has a 2-1 record and a 2.36 ERA in 26.2 innings of work this season.
The Bears are currently on a two-game winning streak and look to extend it against the Rams on Tuesday afternoon.
Scouting Colorado State
The Rams have started the season well with a 7-1 record under eighth-year head coach Jen Fisher. CSU started the season in the Texas Classic, where they went undefeated, picking up wins against Wisconsin (4-3) and Texas (6-2). The following weekend, CSU participated in the Hillenbrand Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. Â In the tournament, CSU went 3-1, with the lone loss coming against No. 4 Arizona (0-3).
Sarah Muzik leads the rams with a .407 batting average and is second on the team with three stolen bases. Corina Gamboa has provided the power for the Rams with three home runs and a .375 batting average. Gamboa also has a .792 slugging percentage to lead CSU. Bridgette Hutton has been the top pitcher for the Rams, with a 4-1 record and a 2.21 ERA in 31.2 innings of work. Hutton has struck out 18 and walked 18 this season.
Northern Colorado and Colorado State played four times in the 2017 season, with the Rams winning each game. The most recent game was a matchup during April in Greeley the CSU won 3-1.
