SEATTLE, Wash. -The Bears were unable to pick up a win in their first road match in over a month. They fell to the Seattle University Redhawks 6-1 on Friday. The Redhawks scored the first team point of the match by winning two of three doubles matches. The Bears' Nick Wade and Michael Kritzinger got past Arshak Gharzaryan and Emilio Monroy 6-2 to start things out on a good note, but the Bears 7-5 and 6-3 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles respectively shortly after.
In singles, Trenton Nield (SU) defeated Connor Finerty (UNC) in three sets 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. Arshak Ghazaryan (SU) beat Kyle Pease (UNC) in straight sets at No. 2 and Colton Weeldreyer (SU) won against Michael Kritzinger (UNC) at No. 3 6-4, 6-1 to seal the match. The Bears only point came from Alex Exsted at No. 6 singles. He was able to get past Jeremiah Kalmus (SU) 6-3, 7-5.
Northern Colorado moved to 5-5 overall (1-2 Big Sky) this spring while Seattle extended their winning streak to three with an overall record of 6-4 (0-0 conf.). The Bears match against Seattle was their first of four matches scheduled on the road this weekend. The remainder of the Pacific Northwest region swing will include bouts against Portland State, Pacific University, and Linfield. Their next match is against the Vikings tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in Vancouver, Washington.
