GREELEY, Colo. -Playing against one of the most difficult opponents they will see this spring, the Bears fell to the University of Utah Sunday night 7-0 at Work Out West Fitness Center. The Utes defeated Denver 5-2 earlier in the day but did not appear fatigued against UNC as they dispatched the Bears in the first two doubles matches before taking care of singles.

Time of the match: 2 hrs. 59 min.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Northern Colorado did not play poorly in the contest, despite being shutout on the score line. Most notably, Kyle Pease split the first two sets against Slava Shainyan at No. 2 singles, using his powerful topspin forehand to push back his opponent. He found himself down a break of serve in the first game of the third set and was ultimately unable to make up the difference, losing 6-3.
At No. 1, Connor Finerty had his hands full with David Micevski. Micevski capitalized on every opportunity and overpowered Finerty from the baseline for a straight set win 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, Utah's Randy Cory and Russell Benkiam (ranked #56 in the nation), did just enough to get past Cassell King and Connor Finerty in doubles 6-4. The same was true at No. 2 and No. 3, and all three doubles matches finished in their 27th minute of play. Nationally ranked singles player Dan Little (#122) was absent from the lineup for Utah.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The Bears (4-3, 0-1 Big Sky) play two matches next weekend at home. The first is on Feb. 17 against Eastern Washington at 11:30 a.m. The second will be played on Feb. 18 against Idaho at 2:00 p.m. The match against the Vandals will conclude a six-match homestand of which the Bears have gone 2-2 so far. Utah (9-1, 0-0 Conf.) travels to play Iowa next on Feb. 16. They do not play a home match until March 21.
