Former, UNC football great Reed Doughty has been named a member of the NFFCC's 25th Anniversary Team

DURANGO, Colo. – The Colorado Chapter of the National Football Foundation is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2018. The NFFCC Board of Directors has selected an 11-member anniversary team, representing the best and brightest student-athletes from the past 25 years, including Northern Colorado's own Reed Doughty.
The 11-member anniversary team consists of Nate Kvamme (Windsor/Windsor HS/Colorado State University), Joel Dreessen (Fort Morgan/Fort Morgan HS/Colorado State University), Reed Doughty (Greeley/Roosevelt HS/University of Northern Colorado), Jesse Nading (Highlands Ranch/ThundeRidge HS/Colorado State University), Dustin Sprague (Holyoke/Holyoke HS/University of Colorado), Jeff Byers (Loveland/Loveland HS/University of Southern California), Nate Solder (Buena Vista/Buena Vista HS/University of Colorado), Clay Garcia (Alamosa/Alamosa HS/Colorado School of Mines), Collin Klein (Loveland/Loveland HS/Kansas State University), Christian McCaffrey (Highlands Ranch/Valor Christian HS/Stanford), and JK Scott (Denver/Mullen HS/University of Alabama).
The team will be recognized at the annual banquet on April 9th at the Denver Marriott West.
2018 National Football Foundation-Colorado Chapter 25th Anniversary Team
Reed Doughty
A 4.0 GPA student-athlete at the University of Northern Colorado, Doughty earned a degree in Exercise Science and was a finalist for the Draddy Trophy. A defensive back for the Bears from 2002-05, Dougthy earned Academic All-American honors and academic all-conference honors three times. He his second all-time in school history with 14 career interceptions, and holds the career records for solo tackles (247) and assisted tackles (219). He also recorded the most tackles for a loss in a season (159, 2005), and the single most tackles in a game (21- at Nebraska-Omaha, Oct. 5, 2002). Doughty was drafted in 2006 by the Washington Redskins, where he played his entire eight-year career. Doughty is now the Director of Athletics at Cornerstone Christian.
Nate Kvamme
A linebacker for the Rams from 1995-98, Kvamme graduated from CSU with a MBA in Engineering/Math. A four-year starter, he is fourth all-time in Rams history in tackles. Kvamme was named the 1999 Western Athletic Conference Student-Athlete of the Year, 1998 Academic All-American, 1998 NCAA Post Graduate Scholarship Award, and all-conference in 1997. He is a business entrepreneur.
Joel Dreessen
Dreessen played tight end from 2001-04 for the CSU Rams. A three-year starter, he earned a degree in Management. Dreesen, who caught 123 passes, earned All-American Honorable Mention honors in 2004, all-conference accolades from 2002-04, and played in the 2004 Senior Bowl. He was drafted in 2005 and played for the New York Jets, Houston Texans, and Denver Broncos. He has caught 19 touchdowns in his NFL career.
Jesse Nading
A defensive end from 2004-07 for the CSU Rams, Nading earned a degree in Business and later went on to receive his MBA from the University of Chicago. A 2007 all-conference performer, he was selected to play in the 2007 East-West Shrine Game. A three-sport all-state athlete in high school, Nading played in the NFL for five years with the Houston Texas (2008-12). He is currently an Associate of McKinsey & Company Consultants.
Dustin Sprague
A native of Holyoke, Dustin Sprague played wide receiver at the University of Colorado from 2002-07. A three-year starter and three-time Academic All-Big 12 student-athlete, Sprague saw action in 48 games and started 21. He caught 103 passes for 1,261 yards, the ninth most career receiving yards and receptions in school history. The head high school coach at Holyoke, Sprague also owns his own business.
Jeff Byers
Jeff Byers, who was a 2003 Gold Helmet winner, started three years as an offensive lineman at USC from 2004-09. From Loveland where he was the Gatorade National Player of the Year (only player in Colorado history to win this award), Byers earned all-conference and academic all-conference accolades two times each. He is currently a partner with Drexel Wealth Management, and has an MBA in Business.
Nate Solder
Currently an offensive lineman for the New England Patriots who drafted him in the first round in 2011, Nate Solder played offensive tackle for CU from 2007-10. Solder, who started his career at CU as a redshirt tight end, is an Academic All-America performer. A National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 2010 and a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, Solder played in 49 career games, earning a degree in Biology. The Buena Vista product was a finalist for the Outland Trophy Award, and has won two Super Bowls for the Pats.
Clay Garcia
A Gold Helmet Winner for Colorado School of Mines, Clay Garcia earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He played quarterback for the Orediggers from 2008-11, and was a two-time Harlan Hill Trophy Finalist. The NFFCC Player of the Year, Garcia was named the 2011 Capital One Division II Academic All-America Football Player of the Year, and was a first team selection. He finished his career completing 671 passes (1,081 attempts) for 7,657 yards and 61 touchdowns in 37 career games. Garcia is an Engineer for BPH Billiton in Houston, Texas.
Collin Klein
Collin Klein (Loveland) played quarterback at Kansas State from 2009-12. A two-year starter, he finished third in the Heisman Trophy Voting. A 2012 Johnny Unitas award winner and All-American, he earned All-Big 12 and Academic Big 12 honors, while being named to the AFCA Good Works Team. Klein, who is the quarterbacks coach at KSU, earned a degree in Business Finance.
Christian McCaffrey
Christian McCaffrey played running back for the Stanford Cardinal from 2014-16. A runner up to the Heisman Trophy, McCaffrey started three years and won the Gold Helmet Award while earning Consensus All-American honors. The AP Player of the Year and Hornung Award winner also earned consensus All-American honors. A graduate with a Communications degree, he is the NCAA FBS record holder for most all-purpose yards in a season (3,864, 2015 season). McCaffrey finished his career at Stanford with 6,987 all-purpose yards, 3,922 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns in 38 games (25 starts). He added 99 receptions for 1,206 yards and 10 touchdowns, and 1,479 kickoff return yards (one touchdown). McCaffrey was selected eighth overall in the 2017 NFL Draft by the Carolina Panthers.
JK Scott
A soon to-be-graduate of Alabama, JK Scott is a three-year starter, three-time All-American and three-time All-SEC First Team punter for the Crimson Tide. In four years, he has punted more than 10,700 yards. Scott, who hails from Mullen High School, owns the NCAA record for highest average per punt by a freshman (48.0 yards, 55 punts-2,640 yards). In all four years, Scott and the Roll Tide competed in the NCAA Championship Game, including national championship titles in 2015 and 2017.
The 2018 National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Colorado Chapter Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Denver West Marriott (1717 Denver-West Marriott Blvd., Golden).
