Four Bears scored in double-figures in their 79-63 win over Portland State
Portland State entered Monday night's game against Northern Colorado leading the Big Sky in scoring defense, field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage. That didn't matter, as Northern Colorado scored 76 points and shot 40.3 percent including 44.8 from behind the arc in a 79-63 win. The Bears improved to 2-0 in the Big Sky and 7-4 overall.
The Bears had balanced scoring on the night with four in double figures led by Micayla Isenbart's 21 off the bench. Joining Isenbart, were Alexis Chapman (19), Savannah Smith (15) and Bridget Hintz (12).
UNC started the game on a 7-0 run forcing an early timeout from Portland State. The Bears offense continued to click throughout the first quarter including going on an 11-2 run to push the lead to double figures. At the end of the first 10 minutes, Chapmen had scored eight points, while Ali Myer had eight of her 15 rebounds, and Smith recorded five of her nine assists. Northern Colorado shot 52.4 percent in the quarter.
Portland State stepped it up defensively in the second quarter as they held the Bears scoreless for a stretch of 7:18. In that time PSU went on a 15-0 run to give them the lead at 27-26. Despite the long scoring drought, the Bears held a 36-34 lead at the break thanks to a long-range 3-pointer from Smith before the buzzer.
The third quarter was a back and forth affair featuring five ties and two lead changes with the Bears leading 58-54 headed to the fourth.
Northern Colorado put the game away with an 11-0 run to go from up three to up 14 from the 8:53 mark to 4:36.

It will be a rematch of the Big Sky Title game last season when the Bears play in their first Big Sky road game of the year at Idaho. UNC and UI tip-off at 3 pm MST in Moscow on Saturday, January 5.
