Mariel Gutierrez and Maddie Roberts earned all region honors for their work in the classroom.

The UNC soccer season came to an end six weeks ago, but the awards for Mariel Gutierrez and Maddie Roberts keep rolling in. The most recent acknowledgment comes from the work they have put in off the field, however. The United Soccer Coaches recognized Gutierrez as first-team scholar all-west region and Roberts second team.

"This is a great accomplishment for these two student-athletes," said UNC head coach Tim Barrera. "Both worked very hard on and off the field. It is a well-deserved honor."

Gutierrez just graduated in December with a degree in Business Finance where she finished with a 3.46.

Roberts, also a senior, posted a 3.66 in English Education.

The west region is made up of every school that side of the Mississippi River including teams from the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12. The pair of Bears where two of six Big Sky players to be honored.
