Northern Colorado women's basketball earned its second straight comeback win on Friday over San Francisco.
SAN FRANCISCO – After a sluggish start UNC women's basketball completed its second straight double-digit comeback win Friday afternoon, defeating San Francisco 68-63. The Bears trailed by as much as 15 in the second quarter before storming back for the win.
Alexis Chapman and Savannah Smith led the way for UNC scoring with 19 each, while Ali Meyer had a monster game on the boards grabbing 17 rebounds in 24 minutes of play.
Against Colorado State on Tuesday, UNC dug themselves a 13-point hole, this time the Bears trailed by as much as 15. The comeback is tied for the second biggest in the program's Division I history.
Northern Colorado's early deficit was a combination of poor shooting and turnovers. The Bears jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before the challenges kicked in for the team. San Francisco closed the final 7:36 of the first quarter on a 22-5 run, including a 13-0 run to close it out. UNC went scoreless for the final 4:29 of the quarter shooting 38.5 percent and turning the ball over eight times.
The team's scoreless drought extended into the second quarter until Savannah Smith hit a jumper almost two minutes in to cut the San Francisco lead to 27-14. UNC made its way back into the game with a run of 14-2 to cut the lead to three with 4:39 left in the half.
Northern Colorado tied the game with 2:14 left in the half on Alexis Chapman's fourth 3-pointer of the half at 32 and went into the break down one at 35-34. Chapman scored 12 of her career-high 19 points in the half, all coming off made 3-pointers.
Having trailed since the early parts of the game, UNC gained its first lead to start off the third quarter when Ali Meyer scored off one of her seven offensive rebounds. The teams traded baskets early in the third until Chapman made her fifth trifecta of the game to spark a 7-0 run.
Before the quarter ended UNC extended its lead to double figures, ending it up 56-49. Smith scored 10 of her 19 points in the third.
Neither team could buy a basket in the fourth quarter, combining for five makes over the first eight minutes of it. The Bears secured the game from the free throw line as their final six points came from there.

- Ali Meyer's 17 rebounds tie for the third most in the program's DI history for a single game. It is the most rebounds by a Bear since Rebecca Howell had 14 against South Dakota State in 2015. Meyer added in seven points, a block, assist and steal.
- Alexis Chapman scored a career-high 19 points by making six 3-pointers. On top of her career night scoring, she added in three rebounds, two steals and an assist.

The Bears close out their three-game road trip with a trip south on I-25 to the United States Air Force Academy. UNC will face Air Force on Wednesday, November 28 at 5 pm.
