Women's golf closed out the fall season with a strong finish in the Ron Moore DU Invite
HIGHLANDS RANCH – Northern Colorado women's golf closed out its fall season with its best round of the Ron Moore DU invite shooting a 297 on Sunday afternoon in cold, windy and misty conditions. The Bears finished 12th overall in the tournament, with a total of 904.
Beah Cruz earned her second consecutive top 10 finish, finishing tied for ninth with a 2-over, 219. She shot a final round 1-over, 73 on Sunday to earn the best individual finish for the team. Cruz had a pair of birdies in her final round on the seventh and 11th hole.
Morgan Sahm and Marisa Hisaki both had strong final rounds as well for UNC, shooting 73 and 74, respectively. Hisaki's 74 gave her a 228 for the event and a tie for 44th. Sahm's 73 gave her a 229 for the 54-hole event leading her to finish tied for 50th.
Colorado State won the event with a 4-under, 860 and had the individual champion in Ellen Secor with a 3-under, 213.
Portie's Perspective
The team had a good final round to end our fall campaign. Shooting under 300 is a goal of ours each day and the team fired 297 on a cold, dreary day. Beah Cruz played great all week shooting 2-over for the three rounds and had a nice top 10 finish in this strong field. Morgan and Marisa played great as well today shooting 73 and 74. Proud of our freshman Jenna Chun as well who struggled the first two days, but came back to help the team score with a 77. Nicole helped us out a great deal this week as well and am looking forward to a great spring for her and the team. The Bears showed a lot of heart this week battling for every shot as the conditions weren't ideal.
What's Ahead
The Bears will go into hibernation from competition for the next few months in preparation for the spring season. Northern Colorado's first tournament of the 2019 spring is Feb. 23-24 at the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona.
