GOLDEN, Colo. – Following a strong performance at the Potts Invitational last week, Northern Colorado track and field built upon it this past weekend at the Mines Twilight Classic. The Bears saw a pair of triple jumpers earn NCAA provisional qualifications during the meet with Jake Tagita and Juliette Cossey.
As a team, UNC had four first-place finishes, five second and four third place for a total 13 top three finishes.
Both Tagita and Cossey earned a first-place finish with their jumps of 14.45m and 11.92m, respectively. Tagita improved on his best jump of the season by 0.25m and was 0.08 off of his personal best of 15.53. Cossey, the UNC record hold for the indoor triple jump, turned in her best performance of the early season with the 11.92 mark.
The two other Bears to earn first place finishes were Samara Lishchynsky in the 400m and Semaye Johnson in the 60m hurdles. Lishchynsky earned the victory by running a 1:00.18, teammate Taylor Ingram was two seconds behind her to finish third with a time of 1:02.31.
Semaye helped UNC earn a 1-2 finish in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.00 flat and Amanda Andrews was just behind her at 9.07.
The Bears stay in state this weekend and look to keep the momentum rolling as they go to the Air Force Invite over January 27 and 28.
