FORT COLLINS, Colo. – After a one week hiatus, Northern Colorado Track and Field was back in action on Saturday at the Jack Christensen Invitational hosted by Colorado State. The women's team came home with five first place finishes, while the men's team secured a top time in the 400m dash.
Best Finishes:
The successful day began with the Bears' Moriah Zachary clinching first place in the women's 200m dash. Zachary cruised to time of 23.82 seconds, a season-best for the senior. Zachary won the event by over half a second, and the time also now sits as the fastest in the Big Sky Conference.
Senior distance runner, Rikki Gonzales kept the ball rolling with a first place nod in the women's 1,500m run. Gonzales came across in a season-best 4:44.81, wrapping up the win by nearly three seconds.
It didn't stop there as fellow distance runner, Katy East crushed the competition in the women's 5,000m run. East set a new personal record in the event, breaking the tap in 17:55.41. The time was also good for a spot on the program's Top 10 list, sitting as the seventh quickest time in UNC history.
The women's 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams outshined the competition as the Bears took first place in both events.
In the 4x100m relay, it was the usual suspects of Brianna Pardner, Samara Lishchynsky, Alivia Ayres-Perry and Zachary the represented the Blue and Gold. The team passed the baton around in 45.60 seconds, good for the top time.
The 4x400m relay squad of Shalise Fernander, Cammy Sargent, Lishchynsky and Mackenzie Howie left no doubt as to whom would be winning the race. Their time of 3:50.54 was a full second faster than the second place team.
On the men's side it was none other than senior sprinter, Jordan Medina that blazed his way to the podium in the 400m dash. Medina clocked in at 47.38 seconds, a season-best for the senior and his first sub-48 second time of the year.
Other Top Finishes:
In the women's 100m dash, Ayres-Perry and Pardner placed third and fourth, respectively. Ayres-Perry finished with a time of 12.02 seconds, while Pardner came across in the finish line in 12.10 seconds.
