GREELEY, Colo. – UNC men's tennis is preparing to play three straight matches in Greeley this weekend starting with Creighton on Saturday February 18th at 9:00am. Then CSU-Pueblo comes to town on Sunday February 19th for a 1:00pm start and finally Southern Utah on Monday February 19th at 9:00am. The upcoming matches will finish the Bears' eight-match homestand. They carry into the weekend a three match winning streak, picking up 5-2 wins against South Dakota State, Montana, and North Dakota.
Men's Tennis (3-4, 2-1 Big Sky)
Last Time Out: Northern Colorado took advantage of an opportunity to extend their winning streak by beating South Dakota State 5-2 last weekend in Greeley. The Bears started by winning all three doubles matches and followed with four wins in singles, the clinching match was a three set affair that Hayden Cramer won in a tiebreaker 7-1. Agustin Lombardi played well in singles and doubles despite working through an apparent injury.
Good to Know: The Bears have fared better in doubles competition this spring, posting a 10-10 record overall. Splitting time between No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, Cassell King and Kyle Pease have a 5-2 record. In singles, the Bears are 16-26 overall.
Scouting Creighton: The last time the Bears played Creighton was back in 2012, with the Blue Jays picking up the win 6-1. So far this spring Creighton is 3-3 overall with wins against North Dakota, William Jewell, and Nebraska-Omaha. Alex Koca and Mac Mease are undefeated with a 4-0 record at No. 3 doubles this spring.
Scouting CSU-Pueblo: The Thunderwolves have played only a pair of matches this spring and lost both, to Abilene Christian and Air Force. They have only one senior, Marcello Chaparro and six sophomores.
Scouting Southern Utah: The Thunderbirds are 0-3 this spring with losses to Idaho State, Arizona Christian, and Sacramento State. They have a young roster with zero upperclassmen and six freshmen. Last season, Northern Colorado defeated Southern Utah 7-0.
Worthless Stat: The last time UNC posted three wins in a row was in 2014 when they defeated six straight teams.
