GREELEY, Colo. – One of the most iconic and influential people in Northern Colorado baseball history turned 90 on Thursday. Former head coach Tom Petroff celebrates his birthday on Thursday, and will always be known as one of the greats for UNC baseball.
The UNC, ABCA and Colorado Sports Hall of Fame member complied a 367-198-1 with six conference titles, three NCAA Division II regional playoff appearances and three NCAA Division I regional appearances. His 1974 club upset number-one ranked Arizona at Jackson Field to advance to the College World Series, where it finished fifth. Petroff was named the 1971 College Division Coach of the Year, and later received the Lefty Gomez Award in 1974.
The 2017 club will honor Petroff later on this season with a Tom Petroff Day to celebrate all that he has done for UNC baseball. The day will be announced at a later date.
