Brett Minnick hit a pair of home runs in UNC's 11-7 win over GCU
GREELEY, Colo. – A pair of Brett Minnick home runs helped the Northern Colorado Bears defeat the Grand Canyon Lopes on Friday afternoon 11-7. The win extends UNC's win streak to five games.
How it Happened
Northern Colorado got out to a quick lead in the first inning scoring three runs. Nick Tanner led off the bottom of the first with a double to right center and came home on a Ryan Yamane to score the first run of the game.
GCU would pull within one with a one out double by Tyler Wyatt in the second inning.
UNC would respond with a two run inning of its own in the third when Brett Minnick hit the first of his two home runs of the game. This one was of the two-run variety to put the Bears up 5-2.
After close to an hour rain delay, Grand Canyon's offense came out on a mission scoring five runs in the top of the fourth to take a 7-5 lead.
The Bears would tie the game up again in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dean Lawson would lead the inning off with a single and come around to score later on a wild pitch.
Brett Minnick would drive in the tying run with a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing in Cole Maltese.
Northern Colorado would take the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth when Yamane worked a bases loaded walk with one out to go up 8-7.
Minnick would put the game away in the bottom of the eighth with a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth.
