Northern Colorado baseball played well, but fell short against Washington 4-2
SEATTLE – Northern Colorado ended its trip to the Pacific Northwest Monday night when they took on nationally ranked Washington. The Huskies would defeat the Bears 4-2.
How it Happened
Washington got out to the early lead with a two-run home run to left field from Chris Baker.
UNC would respond in the second with a pair of runs of their own. Jacob Ek began the inning with a double and was brought home when Tyler Yamaguchi reached on an error. Yamaguchi would score to tie the game up at two when Nick Tanner hit a triple.
The game didn't stay tied for long, as UW would score a run in the bottom half of the second to go up 3-2.
The Huskies would score another run in the fifth, when they loaded the bases, to extend their lead to 4-2.
Game Changing Moment
UNC was threatening in its last at bat with runners on first and second and one out. Washington would change pitchers, bringing in Alex Nesbitt to face the top of the Northern Colorado order. He would end up getting the final two outs of the game with a line-out to left field by Nick Tanner and popping up Dean Lawson to end it.
Players of the Game
Northern Colorado: Nick Tanner wasn't fazed by the PAC-12 pitching he faced on Monday night, finishing the day going 3-for-5 at the plate. He had a pair of singles and a triple along with an RBI.
Washington: Three-hole hitter Chris Baker had the big hit of the night for UW's offense. He put the Huskies up in the first inning with a two-run home run to left field. He would finish the night going 2-for-4 with the pair of RBIs.
