Northern Colorado fell to Seattle Saturday night 4-2
SEATTLE – Northern Colorado's bats were silent for the first six innings against Seattle, leading to the team's 4-2 loss to the Redhawks.
How It Happened
While Seattle's starting pitcher Nick Meservey was holding UNC hitless, SU's offense went to work building the team's lead. Griffin Andreychuck scored the first run of the game for the Redhawks on a Sheldon Stober single in the third. Seattle would add on another run in the inning to be up 2-0.
The Redhawks would add on another run on in the fourth and one more in the sixth to be up 4-0 through two thirds of the game.
Northern Colorado got on the board in the seventh, when Ryan Yamane worked a leadoff walk, and then Brett Minnick hit an RBI triple for the Bear's first hit of the game. The inning would continue on a Rob Cashel single to bring home Minnick.
UNC would squander the situation though, leaving the bases loaded.
Seattle's bullpen would retire Northern Colorado's lineup in the order the final two innings to earn the win.
Game Changing Moment
Northern Colorado seemed to be gaining momentum in the seventh inning with two runs on the board and runners on the corners. Reliever Connor Moore would produce a pop out, walk and pop out to end the inning.
Players of the Game
Northern Colorado: Brett Minnick had the first hit of the game for UNC, going 1-for-3 at the plate. The one hit was an RBI triple to break up a no-hitter. He also worked a walk and recorded seven putouts in the field.
Seattle: Starting pitcher Nick Merservey set the town for SU in the game. He had a no-hitter through six innings of play as he saw his offense give him a 4-0 lead. He would start the seventh inning, not recording an out ending with a line of six plus innings with two hits, two runs, four walks and seven strikeouts.
Notables
- Northern Colorado saw a good pitching performance on their side as well from Jacob Howard and Luke Haynes. The duo combined to go eight innings allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five.
- Dean Lawson's five game hit streak ended, as he went 0-for-4 on the night.
What's Next?
Northern Colorado will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm. Corey Nakakura will take the mound for the Bears.
