Utah Valley Walks-Off Against @NCBearsBaseball
4/9/2016 10:18:00 PM | Baseball
Northern Colorado baseball comeback efforts fall short as Utah Valley walks-off.
How it Happened
Utah Valley's offense came out firing on the night, scoring seven runs in the first three innings of the game to lead UNC 7-2.
In the fourth, Northern Colorado started its comeback. The team plated two runs on Nick Tanner's two-run home run to make it 7-4 heading into the fifth.
Northern Colorado would then tie the game up in the sixth. Trailing by the same score of 7-4, the Bears would once again be the beneficiaries of a home run. This one came from Cole Maltese with one out in the inning.
The Bears would continue its offensive momentum in the next inning when Dean Lawson reached on a single, before coming home on a Jacob Garcia single to go up 8-7.
UNC's lead did not last long, with UVU stringing together a rally to tie it up, in the bottom half of the inning.
In the top of the ninth, Northern Colorado would load the bases with two outs, but leave them stranded.
After getting the first Utah Valley hitter out to start the bottom half of the inning, Spencer Gothberg would double to right field to put the pressure on UNC. The Bears would choose to intentionally walk Zac Willis to put the double play back into play with Craig Brinkerhoff up to bat.
Brinkerhoff would end the game with one swing of his bat on a 1-0 pitch that sailed over the left center wall to give the Wolverines the walk-off 11-8 win.
Game Changing Moment
The last pitch of the game, proved to be the game changing moment as Craig Brinkerhoff's three-run home run would give Utah Valley the walk-off win.
