Northern Colorado baseball fell to Sacramento State 6-3 Sunday
SACRAMENTO, Calif, -- Northern Colorado baseball was unable to earn the get-away day win over Sacramento State on Sunday. The Bears (5-19, 0-3 WAC) fell to the Hornets (17-10, 6-0 WAC) 6-3.
How it Happened
For the third straight game Sacramento State got on the board in the first inning. The Hornets were up 1-0 after the inning thanks to Andrew McWilliams reaching on a leadoff error and coming around to score with two outs.
Sac St would add on to its lead in the second making it 3-0, before exploding for three runs in the fourth to go up 6-0.
Northern Colorado would finally get on the board in the fifth. Rob Cashel would start the inning with a double and later brought home by Jacob Ek with a single up the middle.
The Bears would squander a pair of opportunities in the sixth and eighth leaving two on each time, before adding on its final two runs in the ninth. With two outs, Ek would single to keep the game going and on the next at bat, Cole Maltese would hit his second home run of the year to left field.
Game Changing Moment
With a 3-0 lead going into the fourth inning, Sacramento State was looking to close the door on UNC. They did so scoring three runs in the inning on three hits. Brett Hunley led off the inning with a single, using his speed to put pressure on the Northern Colorado defense to start the rally.
