FINAL RESULTS
BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Bears entered the final round of the 54-hole Battle at Boulder Creek in third place and stayed there, finishing the last 18 holes with a 309, missing out on second place by just two strokes.
UNC totaled a 917 (297, 311, 309) as a team, two strokes behind second place Boston University (915), but out of reach of catching tournament champions UNLV (855).
The Rebels' Elizabeth Prior won the individual title with a 201 (-15).
"Today the big numbers cost us from moving up the leaderboard which is a little disappointing since we finished only two shots out of second," said head coach Stephen Bidne. "It was encouraging to see a couple of individuals step up and battle back after a couple tough holes in their round, but overall we left a lot of shots out on the course, especially on and around the greens."
Senior Amanda Myers once again produced the best round of the day for Northern Colorado. Myers carded a 74 (+2) to go along with her 72 and 80, ending the meet +10 over.
Myers final score was a 226 and she just missed out on a Top 10 finish, coming in 11th on the leaderboard.
Fellow senior, Nicole Okada slotted the second best tournament for the team. Okada capped off the final day with a 76 (+4), totaling a 230 (75,79,76), good for 13th place.
The senior advanced four spots in the finale from 17th, where she sat after 36 holes of play.
"This week was a good tune up before we return here in five weeks for conference," Bidne added. "The girls are close to posting sub 300 rounds every time we play, but it's going to take everyone coming together and playing smart golf."
Juniors Kala Keltz and Baile Winslow were separated by just one stroke in the 54-hole event. Keltz walked into the clubhouse with a 78 (+6), while Winslow finished with an 81 (+9)
Keltz (81,74,78) too moved up four slots in the rankings with a 233 to claim a share of 14th overall, while Winslow (73,80,81) fell one spot to come in tied for 16th after posting a 234 total.
Freshman Janet Yeo rounded out the 18-hole day for Northern Colorado with an 85 (+12). Yeo (74,78,85) totaled a 240 for the tournament and walked off the 18th in a tie for 24th.
"We have over a week to gear up for our next event in Sacramento, so we will again be working hard from 100 yards and in, to prepare for it," Bidne said.
Women's Golf will take a short break and hit the links again March 21-22 at the Sacramento State Invitational.
