A pair of home runs was all Nebraska needed against UNC Tuesday afternoon
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Northern Colorado baseball team started its final road series of its season opening road trip at Nebraska Tuesday afternoon. The Bears would fall to the Huskers in game one of the two game series.
How It Happened
After a pair of scoreless innings, Nebraska jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the third on one swing of the bat, with a three-run home run from Scott Schreiber to get the scoring for NU on the day.
They would add three more in the fifth with another one of those runs coming on Schreiber's second home run of the day. Nebraska would end its scoring for the game in the seventh with a two run inning.
Nebraska's pitchers shut down the UNC offense on the day holding them to just three hits and walks while striking them out seven times.
Players of the Game
Northern Colorado: Cole Maltese provided two thirds of the Bears offense on Tuesday. He ended up 2-for-4 at the plate while also not striking out in the game.
Nebraska: Scott Schreiber had a monstrous game for the Huskers, going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored. He hit two home runs, bringing his season total to four and his other hit was a double.
Stats of the Game
This is just the first time this season UNC has been shutout. The last time that happened was in May 2015 when they lost to Sacramento State 5-0.
Three hits is the third lowest this season for Northern Colorado. They were one hit against CSUN (2/27) and two hit against Wichita State (2/19).
UNC pitchers tied its season low in walks allowed this year at two on Tuesday. The other time came against CSUN on February 27.
