UNC baseball split its doubleheader against Pacific Sunday night
Stockton, Calif. – Northern Colorado closed out its series against Pacific on Sunday with a double-header. The teams split the two games, Pacific taking the first 8-5 and UNC taking the second 8-1.
How It Happened
Game 1:
Northern Colorado got out to a quick start scoring five runs in the first three innings to put the pressure on the Tigers. It was the top of the Bears order that did the most damage in the game, with the No 1-3 hole hitters going 5-for-13 in the game scoring three times and driving in two as well.
The Tigers would chip away at UNC's lead though, scoring at least one run in the second through fourth inning to get within one at 5-4.
In the eighth inning, Pacific put up four runs to take the lead and complete its comeback. The Tigers did so with five hits and a UNC error.
Game 2:
After both teams were held scoreless for the first four innings, they would combine to explode for nine in the next two. Seven of those eight runs would come from the Bears.
In the fifth, UNC would take a 3-0 lead, before Pacific cut it to 3-1 going to the sixth.
In the sixth the Bears had arguably its best inning of the year, putting five runs on the board to take over the game.
Behind yet another strong effort from Nick Tanner, UNC would go on to win the game by the score of 8-1. Tanner earned his first win of the year with a six inning, six hit, one run performance.
UNC Player of the Games
Jack Ek proved to be very valuable at the bottom of the lineup for UNC today, combining to go 5-for-8 in the two games with three RBIs and three stolen bases.
What's Next?
The Bears will finally close out their 15 game road trip to open the year with a trip to Nebraska to take on the Cornhuskers for two on Tuesday and Wednesday.
