UNC opened up their March schedule against the Rams on Tuesday afternoon

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Northern Colorado had its first in-state competition on Tuesday afternoon, facing off against the Colorado State Rams.The Bears were able to score two runs throughout the game, but gave up the loss,10-2.

Four UNC players had hits throughout the game, including Erica Dick,Lauren Paige, Adeline Coldiron,and Sarah Fitzherbert.Dick and Rachel Johnson picked up the two Bear runs,and Kelli Kleis took the loss after pitching the first three innings.

Erica Dick got the first hit of the game for UNC, pushing a single to left field in the first inning. After she stole second, Lauren Paige singled to center field for the RBI, bringing Dick in for the first run of the game. Unfortunately,Paige was stranded on base following the third out of the inning.

Rachel Johnson reached first in the sixth for the Bears after a fielder's choice to second base, and she advanced to second on an error by the short stop. An RBI single by Coldiron sent Johnson in for the run, but Coldiron was also stranded, leaving the Bears' runs at two to close out their outing.

Northern Colorado rotated in three pitchers throughout the game, starting Kleis and keeping her in for three innings before Jayme Reddacliff stepped in to pitch two. Lauren Paige closed out the game, giving up two hits to bring in two runs, ending the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Kleis and Reddacliff accumulated three strikeouts between the both of them before the end of the game.

The Bears are on the road this coming weekend at the University of New Mexico (Albuquerque) for a three-game series against the Lobos. The series will consist of a double header on Saturday, scheduled for a 1:00 p.m.start, and the third game will be played Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

Northern Colorado will return to Greeley next week for a double header home opener against Nebraska-Omaha on Tuesday, March 8.
