Scouting Northern Colorado (Game Notes)
- UNC enters the month of December with a 2-5 overall record, though their record doesn't show how good the team actually. The Bears have had some tough competition as of late, facing three 2016 NCAA Tournament teams in Butler, No. 8 Arizona and Oklahoma.
- The Bears held their own in two out of the three games, keeping both the Wildcats and Sooners at bay for close to 34 minutes in each contest, before the perennial March Madness teams pulled away in the final minutes.
- Sophomore Guard, Jordan Davis continues to be the X factor for UNC through seven games. Davis has finished in double figures in every game and has led the team in scoring in each one as well. Oklahoma was the first team to keep the sophomore under 20 points as he finished with 17 against the Sooners.
- Davis also owns more 20-point games (6) on the season than any other player in the Big Sky and leads the conference in points (23.0 ppg) and assists (5.6 apg).
- Since the Division I era, Northern Colorado holds a 7-1 record over NAIA programs, with its lone loss coming in the 2011-12 season against Westminster College (Utah).
Scouting Northern New Mexico
- Northern New Mexico owns a 2-9 record overall coming into Greeley. After winning its first two games of the season, the Eagles have dropped their last nine games.
- NNMC competes at the NAIA Division II level, and is a part of the Association of Independent Institutions.
- The Eagles have one of the toughest schedules this season (among all other NAIA schools) and have only played one other NAIA Division II thus far. All their other games have come against NAIA Division I programs, or NCAA Division II and Division I teams.
- Northern New Mexico has two players averaging double figures on the season in Jeffrey Long (19.0 ppg) and Ezini Uqbisien (10.0 ppg). Long also leads the team in rebounding and assists, averaging 6.5 rpg and 5.3 apg, respectively.
- The Eagles have made Aii (Association of Independent Institutions) conference tournament four consecutive years in a row and are coached by Ryan Cordova, who was named the Aii Coach of the Year in 2015.
Bears Last Time Out
- Northern Colorado once again proved it can play with tough competition. The Bears held Oklahoma to a single digit lead for 34 minutes until UNC ran out of gas and the Sooners pulled away for an 87-66 victory.
- Sophomore guard, Jordan Davis was the leading scorer for UNC for the seventh straight time, but was held to just 17 points on 8-of-20 shooting. It was the first game the sophomore failed to produce 20 or more points. He also dished out seven assists in the loss.
- Oklahoma was finally able to wear down a road-exhausted Northern Colorado team in the second half. The Sooners outscored the Bears 30-14 in the final 11 minutes of the game, including two big runs of 8-0 and 10-2 down the stretch to earn the win.
- Though they shot 30% (10-of-33) from three-point range, the trey is what kept UNC in the game for the majority of the night. The Bears got 30 of its 66 points from downtown, with DJ Miles and Jonah Radebaugh scoring a combined 18 points from beyond the arc.
