FINAL RESULTS
ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. – UNC women's golf completed its fall season over the weekend at the Cal Poly Lady Mustang Invite. The Bears finished in fourth place overall after carding a team score of 618 (308, 310) in the 36-hole tournament.
How It Happened:
Senior, Kala Keltz began the final round tied for 14th and was able to climb up six spots in the standings to earn a Top 10 finish, tying for eighth place overall. Keltz signed off on a 151 (76, 75 = +7) total, posting a 75 (+3) in the final round.
Just missing out on a spot in the Top 10 was sophomore, Janet Yeo. Yeo ended her final round with a 79 (+7), tying for 12th on the leaderboard. Yeo finished with a total of 152 (73, 79 = +8).
Freshman, Morgan Sahm was in the middle of the pack for the Bears. Sahmn notched a Top 20 finish, tying for 19th after her final round of 75 (+3). The 75 tied as the lowest round of the day with Keltz. For the invite, Sahm shot a 155 (80, 75 = +11).
Jordan Sunset and Marisa Hisaki closed out the invite for Northern Colorado. Sunset, a senior, concluded her final round with an 81 for a total of 160 (79, 81 = +16), while the freshman Hisaki also tallied an 81 to come into the clubhouse with a 162 (81, 81 = +18).
Sunset finished tied for 34th and Hisaki came in tied for 37th place.
Game Changer:
Kala Keltz was the only UNC golfer to climb the leaderboard in the final round of the tournament. Keltz's 75 helped her move up six spots to finish in the Top 10, in eighth place.
Key Stat:
For the fall season, Northern Colorado earned three Top 10 team finishes, coming in eighth place twice and fourth place at the Lady Mustang Invite.
Coach Bidne's Thoughts:
"We dug ourselves into a hole early on in the final round and had a difficult time finding our momentum and the hole for birdie all day. Even though it didn't go as well as we would have hoped, there are still quite a few positives that we can draw and learn from moving forward. As I've mentioned all fall, this team has an abundance of talent. It's the self-belief and the art of having all five of them come together at the same time that is the missing factor right now. All fall we have had two to three players step up each round, but in order for us to get to that next level we need all five.
"The offseason will be nice to recoup and give us time where we can really focus and address technique and areas of improvement. The present and the future is bright for this team and I'm eager to continue the process of getting better each and every day."
Up Next:
The women's golf team will be in idle until February when the spring season begins. The Bears will open their spring competition at Battle at Boulder Creek in Nevada on Feb. 13.
