ALBUQUERQUE, N. M. - The University of Northern Colorado women's tennis team travels to Albuquerque this week for the 2016 USTA/ITA Mountain Regional Championships hosted at the University of New Mexico campus, Oct. 12-16.
Â
ITA Regionals will be the third tournament the Bears have participated in this fall. The team performed higher than expectations in at the Drake Invitational, especially in doubles and got some quality play against teams they won't see in the spring at the Air Force Invitational.
Â
Last year at the ITA Regionals in Las Vegas, the doubles duo of Beth Coton and Remi Immler made it to the semifinals, the furthest a UNC doubles team has advanced since becoming Division I. Beth Coton is back as a senior this season and will be playing with another experienced senior Courtney Schulte. They face Maureen Slattery and Gracia Mboko of Denver University in the first round.
Â
Players from 16 other schools in the Mountain Region will be competing in the tournament including Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Denver, Montana State, Nevada, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Brigham Young University, UNLV, Utah, Utah State, UTEP, Weber State and Wyoming.
Â
Matches will be played at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium, the Linda Estes Tennis Club, and the LETC Indoor Bubble. Double play begins each day at 9 a.m. MDT and singles starts at 11 a.m.
