UNC Women's Tennis Closes Out Weekend at Air Force Invitational

USAFA - UNC women's tennis competed in the Air Force Invitational this weekend - their second fall tournament of the season. The team played well throughout the three-day tournament, including a second place finish for sophomore Lea Krajcovicova and first place finish for junior Courtney Schulte.
Overall the team went 12-12 in singles play and 5-7 in doubles.
"The team competed well this weekend and I'm pleased with the overall performance we had," head coach Brenda Vlasak said. "This weekend was full of exciting and competitive matches where we showed a lot of fight and displayed our desire to win. We found ourselves in a few tight spots but didn't break under the pressure and were able to fight our way back."
Krajcovicova finished second overall in the Flight 1 grouping, defeating opponents from Air Force, Utah State, and Texas State. The junior only lost one set in her three matches, by a close 5-7, before coming back for the win 6-2 and 6-0.
"Lea continues to impress us with her dedication on the court. She never gives up, even after losing a tough first set, she fought her way back to defeat the other player handedly in the second and third sets."
Freshman Lily-Ana Kreutzer founder herself with a win on the third day of the tournament, after falling to her opponents on Friday and Saturday. Kreutzer won the first set 7-5 against Monika Van De Vondel of Utah State, then fell in the second set, 4-6. Despite the second-set loss, Kreutzer fought hard, defeating Van De Vondel in the third set, 6-2, to win the match.
"I was really happy with Lily's performance on Sunday," Vlasak noted. "She had a breakthrough match that will help build her confidence and help her win more matches."
In doubles-play, the UNC team of Beth Colton and Remi Immler picked up two wins in the Flight 1 group, over opponents from Utah State and Eastern Michigan. In Flight 3, Marissa Baca and Anna Battersby had similar success, their two wins also over opponents from USU and EMU.
The Bears return to action in two weeks, traveling up to Fort Collins to compete in the Colorado State Invitational (Oct. 2-4).
