GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado Tennis team hosted Colorado Mesa today, an impressive Division II club with a overall record of 10-6 on the year and a conference record of 1-0. The Mavericks brought their best, but UNC handled them, winning easily 7-0.
UNC captured victories at all six singles spots and two of the three doubles with #2 doubles not finishing the match.
Picking up their ninth doubles win at #1 slot was Beth Coton and Courtney Schulte downing Kristyn Wykert and Rachel McLaughlin, 6-0.
Hilary Walters-West and Marissa Baca also improved their winning streak to two matches handling Natalie Martin and Katie Metz easily, 6-1. This was the duo's eight win on the year.
Picking up her eleventh win on the year and fourth at #1 singles was freshman Lea Krajcovicova who defeated Martin, 6-1, 6-1.
Chrissie Hoolahan and Baca grabbed wins in the day taking on tough opponents at #2 and #6 singles but won respectively, 6-1, 6-7, 10-3 and 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.
Coton and Walters-West had no trouble defeating their opponents, 6-4, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-2.
This was Walters-West second win in a row at #3 singles.
Lindsey Bennet rounded out the successful day cruising to an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Dobson.
UNC improves to 6-13 on the year with the 7-0 win.
The Bears will be back in conference play on April 11 when they head to Idaho State. Doubles play is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.with singles to follow.
