Junior Amanda Myers sits three strokes off the lead after her round of 72 (E) on Monday.
[ROUND TWO RESULTS]
CHANDLER, Ariz. – Junior Amanda Myers shot an even round of 72 to up her chances of winning the Big Sky Individual Championship on Tuesday.
After starting the day out with back-to-back bogeys, Myers quickly turned things around, parring five straight holes and carding a birdie. She bogeyed the ninth hole to head into the turn at +2 over.
The junior found her marks on the back stretch of Ocotillo, finishing -2 under to erase her mishaps on the front. She birdied holes 10 and 16, carding pars on the rest.
At -1 under for the Championship, Myers remains three strokes behind Southern Utah's Taylor Viquelia (-4 under) who also shot a round of 72 today.
"It was nice to see Amanda play well again," said head coach Stephen Bidne. "It's always tough to follow up a low round with another, but she did a great job showcasing her maturity and was able play well on the back to give herself a chance going into tomorrow afternoon."
As a team, The Bears dropped from fifth to seventh in the rankings after scoring a 312 (+24 overall) compared to Monday's 303 (+15 overall). With one round to play, UNC sits just nine strokes back from the Top 5.
"Today was a tough day for the team," Bidne said. "We had a difficult time finding a rhythm all day and just let way too many shots get away from us."
Sophomore Baile Winslow is seeking a Top 25 finish at the League Championship. Winslow remained consistent, shooting another round of 78 (+6 over) to end the day.
Winslow was +4 over at the turn and finished the back with a birdie on 18 to come into the clubhouse at just +2 over on the last nine.
She is currently in a five-way tie for 28th overall and is just one stroke out of the Top 25 and four strokes back from the Top 15.
Both freshman Christina Ferriera and sophomore Kala Keltz carded rounds of 81 (+9 over). Keltz made strides in the standings, shaving eight strokes off her first round score of 89.
Ferreira was slightly off her game, tacking on three extra strokes from yesterday's round of 78. The front nine proved difficult for the freshman as she tallied five straight bogeys to start the day, heading into the turn at +7 over.
Ferreira's swing was dependable on the last half of the day, as she completed the back nine at +2 over.
Keltz moves into a tie for 50th, while Ferreira fell into a tie for 41st on the leaderboard.
Junior Nicole Okada ended the day for Northern Colorado. After completing the first round with a 76, Okada was a bit off the mark today, scoring an 82 (+10 over) to complete day two.
The junior is in tie for 37th overall.
"Heading into the final round, we just have to simply play confident," said Bidne. "We need to trust all of the hard work that we've put in throughout the year. A good round tomorrow will give us a solid overall finish."
The Big Sky Championship will conclude tomorrow, April 21 with the final round. Live results can be found here.
