The Bears finished in 7th place in the League Championships at Ocotillo Golf Resort.
[FINAL RESULTS]
CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Northern Colorado women's golf team finished the final Big Sky Championship hosted at Ocotillo Golf Resort on Tuesday.
Heading into today's final round, junior Amanda Myers found herself just three strokes out of the lead after posting two great rounds of 71 (-1) and 72 (E).
Myers had a difficult day, unable to maintain her consistency in the final round. The junior carded her highest round of the tournament at +8 over, finishing the Championship at +7 over and tying for fourth place overall.
Fourth place is the best finish Myers has had at the tournament and the highest finish for a UNC golfer since the 2013 Championships when Carleigh Silvers took 5th.
"A huge congratulations goes out to Amanda," said head coach Stephen Bidne. "I know she was a little disappointed on how things panned out, but she fought through it and had a fantastic overall tournament. She has had a great spring season and I know the girls are just as proud as I am of her accomplishments."
Northern Colorado completed the third round with a 305 (+17 overall) and were led by freshman Christina Ferreira and Sophomore Baile Winslow.
UNC took 7th place as a team and despite falling two spots on the leaderboard, the Bears finished two spots lower than they were predicted to at the beginning of the season.
"Today we had some players who have been struggling some as of late step up and post some good scores today which was fun to see," Bidne said. "Even though seventh place isn't exactly where we wanted to finish, I thought they played well and I view it as a step in the right direction for this program."
Winslow was just outside the Top 25, sitting in 28th after the end of round two on Monday.
She played solid golf on Tuesday, carding a +2 over, 74. Winslow jumped six players on the leaderboard to finish in a tie for 21st, the highest the sophomore has ever finished at the event.
The newcomer, Christina Ferreira also came in to the clubhouse with her best score of the Championship.
Ferreira holed eight straight pars before bogeying 15 through 17. She fought back and tallied a birdie on 18, also ending with a +2 over, 74.
Ferreira moved up 12 spots on the leaderboard, tying for 29th overall.
Junior Nicole Okada was another Bear that moved up the leaderboard today. She was able to shave four strokes off of her second round score, posting a +6 over, 78.
The California native had a great front nine, making seven pars and just two bogeys, heading into the turn at +2 over, but struggled on the back stretch, hitting four consecutive bogeys on holes 14-17, to finish +4 over on the last nine.
She tied for 34th place.
Also playing her best golf of the tournament was sophomore Kala Keltz. Keltz finished one stroke off of Okada with a +7 over, 79.
Keltz's game was pretty even for both nines as she was +3 over at the turn and finished the back +4 over.
Keltz finished 50th overall.
That wraps up the season for the women's golf team. The Bears return all five starters next season and will look to make a dent in the BSC preseason polls in 2015-16.
"Overall, I'm pleased with how our season went," said Bidne. "We not only have climbed up the ranks significantly since last season, but we've been more competitive and have had some good individual and team finishes. All of the credit goes to the girls though, it's not easy maintaining the grades in school that they do, combined with all the hard work they pin in at workouts and practice week after week. I'm extremely proud of each and every one of them. We have come a long way and will continue to set the bar high going into next fall."
