[CHAMPIONSHIP NOTES]
Chandler, Ariz. – The Northern Colorado women's golf team heads to the desert this weekend to compete in the 2015 Big Sky Women's Golf Championships. This will be the 13th year the Championship has been held in the Phoenix area, and the seventh and final season it will be played at the Ocotillo Golf Resort.
Ocotillo is a par 72 with a yardage of 6,276. The Bears will play from the blue and white tees during the 54-hole event that is spread over the course of three days. The opening round starts this Sunday, April 19 and ends on Tuesday, April 21.
Northern Colorado has a strong history of success at the Championships. In 2012 UNC took home the title and then the following year the team tied for 3rd overall. With a preseason ranking of 9th, the Bears hope to make waves this weekend and shake up the leaderboard.
"This will be the last year that Conference will be hosted at Ocotillo Resort, so we're looking forward to heading down there and playing to our full potential," said head coach Stephen Bidne. "Of course heading into Conference we want to be the ones standing with the trophy come Tuesday afternoon, but we can't think into the future and get ahead of ourselves."
UNC will play a practice round on Saturday before the tournament kicks off on Sunday.
"Our plan going in is simple, focus on the present and be confident," said Bidne. "Each player on our roster has proved throughout the season that they can go low, so it's just a matter of time before everyone clicks on the same stage."
Tee times for the opening round are listed below:
7:15 a.m. Baile Winslow
7:24 a.m. Christina Ferreira
7:33 a.m. Nicole Okada
7:42 a.m. Kala Keltz
7:51 a.m. Amanda Myers
Live Results for the Championship can be found HERE.
"Ocotillo is a course that is fairly straight forward," said Bidne. "There's a little water that comes into play every now and then, but for the most part it's a course that can yield some very low scores. If we stick to our game plan, go out there and play to our abilities and stay away from the big numbers, it will be a fun filled Tuesday for the Bears."
The Big Sky champion will represent the league at the NCAA West Regional May 7-9 at the Entrada Golf Course, St. George, Utah.
