LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – The Northern Colorado women's golf team headed to the Midwest to compete in the 54-hole UALR-ASU Invitational on Monday.
The Bears were in a three-way tie for 10th after shooting a first round team score of 316, but faltered after course conditions became wet in the second 18 holes of the day, posting a 329.
UNC currently sits in 12th place on the leaderboard.
"We had a tough time finding a rhythm as a team today," said head coach Stephen Bidne. "Due to wet conditions, the course played difficult and extremely long for the girls."
Junior Amanda Myers had the lowest round of the day for the team. Myers carded a +3 over, 75 in the morning session. She followed it up with a slightly higher score of 83 (+11 overall) to end her 36-hole day.
Heading into the final round, Myers is in tie for 45th place out of the 83-member field.
Fellow junior Nicole Okada and sophomore Jordan Sunset also shot in the 70's in the opening 18 holes of the tournament. Okada and Sunset came into the clubhouse with identical cards of 79 (+7 overall).
Okada only finished one stroke higher in the second round with an 80, while Sunset completed the second leg of the invite with an 85 (+13 overall).
Okada is currently posted up in tie for 49th and Sunset is seated in a tie for 65th overall.
Baile Winslow also played a consistent game on Monday. The sophomore marked an 83 during round one and tracked it with an 84 to finish her day in Arkansas at +23 over par.
Senior Jocelyn Thompson rounded out day one for UNC. Thompson fired an 89 (+17 overall), but managed to shave seven strokes off of her second round score, tallying an 82 to end the day.
Winslow stands in a tie for 73rd while Thompson is in a tie for 80th place.
"Unfortunately we made way too many unforced errors and let too many shots go around the green," Bidne said. "Tomorrow we need to stay confident and trust our abilities. It's a difficult course, so a good round tomorrow will give us a chance to climb the leaderboard."
The last round of the invite will begin tomorrow, March 31 with tee times starting at 7:30 a.m. (MT)
