Men's Tennis Drops Match against #63 UC Davis
3/15/2015 10:08:00 PM | Men's Tennis
UC Davis went on to defeat UNC men's tennis 7-0 Sunday afternoon
RESULTS
DAVIS, Calif.—The Northern Colorado men's tennis team faced it's third ranked team of the season in #63 UC Davis Sunday afternoon, and fell 7-0. The final tally of 7-0 can be deceiving though as the Bears (4-9) were competitive in all of the matches.
"UC Davis is a tough team to play," head coach Mike Phillips said. "Despite the 7-0 outcome we had some good close matches in both singles and doubles."
UC Davis picked up the doubles point by winning the number two and three match ups, going into the singles matches needed just three points to secure a win. The pair of Jordan Loughnan (Mudgee, New South Wales) and Cassell King (Henderson, Nev.) got close to helping UNC steal the point though in the number two match falling 4-6.)
Connor Finerty (Muskogee, Okla.) was the lone Bear to win a set during any part of the match. Finerty won the second set of the number six singles match 6-3 after dropping the
first set 2-6. He would go on to fall in the final set 7-10.
UNC will now take the lessons learned from this match and apply them to two mid-week conference match ups against North Dakota on March 17 and Sacramento State on March 18, both in California.
