@UNCBEARSFB Inks 18 to 2015 Recruiting Class

GREELEY, Colo. – The Northern Colorado football team capped off National Signing Day inking 18 future student athletes to its roster from five different states.
This new class features 10 athletes from Colorado, four from California, two from Texas, one from Illinois and one from Massachusetts.
The 2015 class padded the defense adding six defensive lineman, four linebackers, and two defensive backs.
The offense also received a boost adding three wide receivers and three utility players to the ranks.
Head coach Earnest Collins Jr. said this new class will provide some much needed competition in practice.
"I'm happy with where we are at with this class," Collins said. "I want all of these guys to come in with the mentality that they are going to take someone's job. I don't care whether it's a freshman or a senior on the field as long as they play hard. To be able to take our program to the next level we need players that are going to provide that competition in practice. I believe this group is going to help us do that."
Collins also stated he will be looking for defensive leadership from his two junior college transfers Bryan Stansbury (Santa Rosa JC) and Chuntony Johnson (Hartnell JC).
"They already have that experience of playing at a higher level," Collins stated. "These are the type of players that can come into our program ready to play. They have maturity and come from successful programs, so they know what it takes to win."
The Bears will begin spring practice the first day after spring break and host the annual Blue vs. Gold spring game on April 25.
The 2015 season begins on Sept. 6 when UNC hosts Western State at Nottingham Field.
