UNC hosts Eastern Washington and Idaho with a change at the North Division Title

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado volleyball closes out its regular season schedule this weekend when they host Eastern Washington (Nov. 12) and Idaho (Nov. 14). The Bears have already wrapped up a berth in next week's Big Sky Tournament, but will still be competing for seeding in it.

UNC can secure the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a weekend sweep and some help from other teams including Idaho going 0-2. Even if Idaho does not go 0-2 this week, UNC can guarantee itself the five seed with a 2-0 weekend.

Besides playing for seeding in the Big Sky Tournament, Northern Colorado will also be honoring its three seniors before Saturday's match. Meagan Garcia, Kendra Cunningham and Katie Champion will all be honored. The three combined have over 1,400 kills and 2,300 digs along with helping the team make two NCAA Tournament appearances.

Last week the Bears went 2-0 defeating both Montana and Montana State in five sets. The team owned the fifth set in both matches, out-hitting its opponents .313 to -.125.

This week's opponents of Eastern Washington and Idaho are trending in opposite directions. EWU started conference play out 7-0, but has gone 2-5 since then, dropping back in the pack of the North Division and is now in a battle with UNC and UI. Meanwhile, Idaho comes into this weekend on a four game win streak and winners of nine of their past 10 matches.

Both team's present versatile attacks that will be tough to stop, with the development of UNC's middle blockers Alex Kloehn and Emily O'Neil and the team's backline defense being led by Meagan Garcia, they should be able to combat it well.

Saturday is Senior Day, prior to the match UNC will honor Meagan Garcia, Kendra Cunningham and Katie Champion. The game is also sponsored by Bank of Colorado who will provide free carabineers to all of those in attendance.
