UNC defeated North Dakota 1-0 on Friday to secure the #2 seed in the Big Sky Conference Tournament
GRAND FORKS, N.D.  - Northern Colorado soccer defeated North Dakota Friday, 1-0, in its final 2015 regular season game. The win, as well as an Idaho vs. Eastern Washington 1-1 tie, secured the Bears a 2nd-place regular season finish (#2 seed in Big Sky Tournament).
The lone goal in the game came in the 56th minute, when sophomore Brooke Braden tipped the ball in off of a pass from senior Essence Ortiz-Laneir.
Overall, the Bears outshot North Dakota 21 (10 on goal) to nine (three on goal).
This win extended the Bears' lead in the all-time series to 8-0-0.
North Dakota came out quickly—taking a shot on goal, their only of the half — just 45 seconds in.
Northern Colorado wouldn't respond with their own shot until 10 minutes later, but would then proceed to take nine shots total before time expired in the first period. Of the nine goals, two were on goal and another shot came from junior Paige Morris, narrowly missing the goal, hitting the post.
Neither side was able to capitalize on its chances in the first half, sending the teams into the break scoreless.
Adrienne Jordan set the pace for the Bears in the second half, managing a shot on goal just over a minute into the second half. Another three attempts would be made in the following nine minutes, including Braden's game-winning goal.
North Dakota was unable to get near the goal again until the last 10 minutes, but both of its attempts on goal were saved by Northern Colorado goalkeeper Madeline Burdick.
The Big Sky Conference Tournament is up next for the UNC squad, taking place next weekend in Moscow, Idaho. The No. 2 seeding grants the Bears a bye on the first day of the tournament (Thursday, Nov. 5), so their first game will take place Friday, Nov. 6th at 10 a.m. MT. They will play the winners of the Thursday morning (10 a.m. MT) game between No. 3 Eastern Washington and No. 6 Sacramento State.
